Edward II...continued

"Edward II" was the most shocking and sad of all the texts we've read this semester. Doomed from the beginning, Edward feels like he was born the wrong person, never really living up to the name "King". He is drawn to Gaveston and throws all caution to the wind. He doesn't think of how others might percieve his actions and how the country might suffer if he doesn't pull his head out of the clouds. As I mentioned in my last blog entry, I believe Edward's affair might not have been such a huge deal if he had made any attempts to protect the state. I think this would be somewhat true today, also. Though the paparazzi and media is very harsh and thorough in some of their "investigations", I think they wouldn't make so much noise if it was evident that their leader was doing a good job to serve and protect. Take Winston Churchill for example, he was a outspoken and obnoxious drunk, yet little is said about that part of his life [though a big one] because of his dedication and success as a leader. I think Edward is brought down so violently because of the fact that he made no true efforts as a ruler to rule, only throwing around the name.
