Though it strikes me as absurd and frustrates me that such large numbers of people would believe in monsters...I can appreciate what a confusing and dangerous time the renaissance was.

I guess i am just too used to the world I live in now. It is hard to imagine a time that was so accusing and condemning of so many things. When your main source of education is the church, it is hard to think outside or broaden your mind.
I also realize that some might have taken part in the monster phenomena just because it was cool to do at the time. It was also fantastical and "unnatural", something that has appealed to humans since the beginning of time. There are still unexplainable creatures in our day and age--most would agree these are fictional, but there remains many believers: the Loch Ness Monster, Sasquatch, Chupacabra, etc...
I found these photos in my "renaissance monsters" google image search [http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?t=16936]. They've been photoshopped to portray m
onsters of our time in classical renaissance paintings. I thought it was fitting to the blog topic and comical in a twisted way.
